Azimuth
A downloadable game for Windows
AZIMUTH is a game within a game (made in 10 days using Unreal Engine for the Super Rare Games Mixtape Jam #, the contest for which it came in 3rd place) where chasing the highest score comes at the cost of literally corrupting your chances!
CONTROLS:
- WSAD to fly around
- MOUSE point and click to interact with the computer and tape deck
HOW TO PLAY:
Fly through space gates with the WSAD keys to earn points while using mouse pointer controls to fiddle with the cassette tape functions to alter the game itself: 'Fast Forward' to speed things up and keep the points multiplier going, 'Rewind' to slow things down allowing for course corrections around obstacles and 'Record' to stay invincible for a time! Be warned though: the more you mess with a game tape, the more erratic the obstacles will become, stretching and sliding all over the playing field! The visuals become obscured by dense pixilation as the corruption sets in.
You have up to three other colour-coded game tape 'Back-Ups' in a little box to your right that you can swap between where necessary, whenever the current tape has become too warped for you to play with; just click 'Pause' on the tape deck with your mouse, click on another tape to swap with and click 'Play' to get going again! Collide with an obstacle in the game and you lose the currently used tape. Gain enough points and you can even win back a precious tape in brand spanking new condition, or even a pencil to save your current tape from one further obstacle hit.
AZIMUTH hearkens back to the days of the Apple Macintosh II and Commodore cassette game systems with dexterous controls, satisfyingly clunky mechanical sound design and a retro sci-fi style so warm and soft that practically melts through the monitor and glows around the screen!
REMEMBER:
High scores will only be saved after a game over; don't quit in the middle of a run if you're serious about going for the gold! To quit the game, press the power button next to the glowing red light to the right-hand side of the in-game computer. Keep your wits about you, because if you lose all your tapes, it's game over!
Congrats goes out to the winner of the Super Rare Mixtape Jam: Lucas Delvallet for their entry Only Cassette Coloring! Well done! :)
